  • Subspecialised in STEREOTACTIC RADIOSURGERY. Pioneer in Stereotactic Radiosurgery in South Asia, carrying out the first procedure in South Asia in May 1995 at the Apollo Hospitals Madras. Other special areas of interest include Stereotactic Biopsy and Management of Head Trauma. 
  • Pioneer in introducing telemedicine in India. Invited guest speaker in International Conferences on Telemedicine held at Cairo, Kosovo, Dhaka etc. Have given lectures at national conferences on Medical Informatics, besides being resource person for the MGR Medical University and Pondichery universities for these subjects. First one from India to have participated in multipoint intercontinental telemedicine conferences. Organized teleconferences with New Jersey, Nagoya (Japan), Riyadh, etc. Popularized using video teleconferences for CME programmes in India
  • 32 years of extensive teaching, clinical and operative experience at the Institute of Neurology, Madras Medical College, Stanley Medical College and the Apollo Hospitals and Sundaram Medical Foundations  Madras. 
  • Postgraduate Teacher, question paper setter, examiner and inspector in Neurosurgery for the National Board of Examinations, Govt. of India
  • External overseas examiner for Master’s degree in Neurosurgery - Universiti Sains Malaysia 
  • First Neurosurgeon in India to get a Ph.D. in Neuroimaging (1990). 
  • Second Neurosurgeon in India to get the Membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Neurosurgery in 1981. 
  • Youngest Indian neurosurgeon to have obtained the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons in 1986. 
  • Awarded Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons in 1987. 
  • Presented about 270 papers in National Conferences and 45 in International Conferences. 
  • Published about 155 papers and several chapters in books. 
  • Chaired scientific sessions in National and International Conferences. 
  • Awarded the International College of Surgeons visiting professorship (Indian Section) in 1993 and Kamarakar Oration 1999.
